How Does Paleo Work?

The goal of the Paleo diet is to Normalize Insulin Levels. This will provide you with the best body composition, performance and health. You will hum with energy and power!

Why Do I Care?
Insulin and its Role:
Eating food raises your blood sugar which in turn raises the level of the hormone insulin. Different foods raise your insulin levels different amounts:

  • Fats: Not at all
  • Protein: Very little
  • Carbohydrates: A lot! (varies by glycemic load, not index)

When you consume too many carbs or bad carbs, your blood sugar spikes; thus, so do your insulin levels. Consistent insulin spiking causes your insulin sensitivity to decrease, reducing your body’s ability to control it.

A Few Facts About Insulin:

  • Controls the storage of fat
  • Directs the flow of amino acids, fatty acids, and carbs to tissues
  • Regulates cholesterol
  • Is a growth hormone
  • Involved in appetite control
  • and more…

Insulin is not something you want to lose control of. Consistent, long-term insulin resistence leads to the inability of the body to shed extra fat; the inability of the body to absorb nutrients; and leads to hyperinsulinemia.

What is Hyperinsulinemia?
Overloading your body with carbohydrates can lead to your body becoming insulin resistent, where your pancreas can’t tell or control how much insulin is being secreted. This consistent and high level of insulin in the body leads to hyperinsulinemia, a condition that can be linked to almost ALL diseases: heart disease – cancer – stroke – diabetes – obesity – hypertension – myopia – PCOS – gout – acne – excess fluid retention- immune disorders – arthritis – etc
