Why should I do CrossFit?
CrossFit is perfect for anyone looking for something new and different from their everyday routine. We take care of all the programming and workouts so all you have to do is get your butt through the door.
With Nutritional Guidance and a program of 3-4 CrossFit classes a week, we can guarantee results in only a few months! Don’t believe us? Check out some of our Member Stories.
Is it all crazy weight lifters, endurance athletes or fitness freaks that do CrossFit?
Nope, but we do have some incredible athletes who use CrossFit to stay fit. Most of our clientele are 30+ parents of young children just looking for the best and most efficient way to get fit.
What if I can’t do any of the things I see people doing in your photos?
Everyone started in the same place you are. Many had never even heard of a “Sumo Deadlift Highpull” …Let alone lift a 45 lb barbell over their head. All the movements & workouts CrossFit uses are easily taught in our OnRamp Intro Program. The six-class course is designed to introduce the olympic lifts and other exercises we do on a daily basis. In small classes of 2-4 other beginners, trainers will work with you to make sure your technique is sound before graduating you to regular classes.
What is the ratio of Men/Women who do CrossFit?
Many people are surprised to find that a majority of the membership here at CrossFit Anaerobic are women… Almost 60%, in fact. CrossFit as a national and global movement is remarkably even between men and women.
What if I have a previous injury?
CrossFit is a fantastic way to rehabilitate from an injury or surgery, no matter the type or severity. The great thing about CrossFit workouts is they can be modified or scaled down to accomodate any fitness or ability level. If there is a movement you’re uncomfortable with, or that we as trainers feel you shouldn’t be doing, then there are a host of other things we can have you do and still get you a great workout. That’s what we as trainers are here for… to make sure you get the best possible workout within the realm of your ability level.
Do I need to do anything else besides CrossFit?
No, but it depends on your goals. CrossFit can stand alone as a training routine as long as you are coming at least 3 times per week. This will get you reasonably fit or help you maintain if you’re already in good shape. For people looking for more results, we recommend attending at least 4-5 classes per week. Talk to a trainer for an individual recommendation based on your abilities.
What is a WOD?
We refer to our daily workout as the “Workout of the Day” or WOD. Every WOD is programmed in-house by our trainers and is designed to progress your athleticism and health over time. Each class consists of a warm up to improve functional mobility, some skill or technique work, the WOD, and a brief cool down. This all happens in less than an hour, producing long-term results and making it the most efficient use of your time at the gym.
How often should I come in order to start seeing results?
If you’re just starting out, its a good idea to shoot for at least 3 classes per week. This will give your body a chance to adapt to the new workout pace and also give your body enough recovery time to produce results. Once you’ve gotten comfortable with the workouts, usually after a month or so, we encourage those looking for noticeable results so start coming at least 4 times per week. That being said, its important not to overtrain. Talk to a trainer for individual recommendations based on your fitness level. For more tips about just starting out, see our 10 Tips for Newbies.
Why is CrossFit so expensive?
The short answer is “it’s not.” The cost of other local gyms and health clubs don’t include personalized small group training. Huge “Globo-Gyms” (Dodgeball anyone?) offer cheap monthly memberships because they have thousands of members who never actually use their facilities.
Our higher prices reflect our commitment to offering you the best personal fitness training experience. You are getting unlimited access to personal trainers who are actively involved in helping you accomplish your fitness goals. In an industry where people don’t think twice about shelling out $70-$100 per session for personal training, our prices for membership are a bargain! We believe you get far more with your monthly CrossFit membership than you ever would hiring a personal trainer.
Remember, we don’t just show you a machine and tell you to use it, we work with you to teach you new movements, focus on your specific goals and make sure that you are reaping the benefits of our program.
I’m a woman. Will lifting weights make me buff?
There is a common misconception that lifting weights will give women massive shoulders, legs, backs and arms. With CrossFit, you will have better tone and build lean muscle mass, but you won’t look like a body-builder.
I’m a runner, cyclist, golfer, tennis player, etc., why should I do CrossFit?
Every specialized athlete has clear deficiencies. CrossFit targets your weaknesses, and improving these areas will make you a dramatically better sport-specific athlete.
